Rantalainen BI is a modern cloud service for business intelligence, designed to facilitate the monitoring, reporting, and analysis of organizations’ business information, irrespective of the company’s size. With Rantalainen BI’s budgeting tool, entering the company budget or forecast into the system for monitoring is quick and easy.
The user can also allocate the budget in accordance with the actual figures for the comparison period and create factor calculations to be automatically applied. All the budget templates can be customized as necessary.

- Move to budgeting via the button in the upper left-hand corner
- Open the budget template for input
- Perform filtering for the template, and change the comparison period
- Show/hide lower-level items (typically accounts)
- Select the budget and the template to be edited
Budget input state
Open the budget template by clicking “Input” in the bar at the top. After this, enter the budget in the green budgeting cells and confirm by pressing Enter.
- Confirm any changes you have made, by clicking the “Done” button
- Undo/redo your changes as necessary
- You can turn autosave on/off
- Filter the dimensions, and change the comparison period
- Show/hide lower-level items (typically accounts)
- Use the green budgeting cells to specify amounts
Entering the budget as an overall total
The rows and columns contributing to totals are denoted with dark green cells. If the budget is given in a summary row or column, the user must select the distribution method for allocating the total amount at lower levels in the hierarchy.
- Type the figure in the summary row or column, and click to show the drop-down menu
- Select the desired distribution method
- Distribute evenly-> Distribute the sum evenly across all the items
- Copy value-> Copy the sum to each of the items
- Modify by index-> Modify the item values in accordance with the index provided (100=100%)
- Relative to comparison-> Distribute the sum across the items in line with the values realized for the comparison period
Adding an item to the template
The default template uses a profit-and-loss statement and actual figures for the preceding 12 months as comparison values. All accounts that had a balance during the comparison period are included in the profit-and-loss statement. New items can be added to the profit-and-loss statement if the user wants to use accounts that are not included there for budgeting.
- Click on the set of three dots
- Select “add item”
After this, a sidebar is displayed on the right-hand side, allowing you to drill down to the account map and select the accounts to be shown. Confirm by pressing the green button.

- Confirm by pressing the green button
Shortcut keys
These shortcut keys can be used in budgeting:
- Previous, via CTRL+Z
- Next, via CTRL+Y
- Confirm and move to the next row, via Enter
- Confirm and move to the next column, via Tab
- Edit cells, via F2
